The paid triangle was selected to estimate the volatility in total unpaid claims (OS and IBNR), however, due to the small size of the portfolio, we relied on a comparable business (GIG Kuwait P&C) as a benchmark for volatility.
The method is “Stochastic Bootstrap”, and the confidence level is 80th (due to the limited impact at 75th) while on the reinsurance side, we selected the 60th percentile (to avoid any negative risk adjustment on a net basis).
Because of the selected level of granularity (Health vs Life vs P&C), we believe that no diversification benefit is required at total level for GIG Parent. All factors are calibrated, before uploading them onto the engine, to avoid any over- or under-estimation that may arise from the claims’ payables or receivables.
We are comfortable with the above methods and selections as of the valuation date. The Gross Risk Adjustment is KD 1.1 million (KD 35.2k on a net basis).
