I
am an Arizona State Certified Court Interpreter. I achieved a Tier 2
certification in January, and in June I will be taking the State Oral
Examination for the Tier 3 or 4. In July of last year I attended the Court
Interpreter Training Institute offered by the National Center for
Interpretation at the University of Arizona. This consisted of 120 hours of
intensive training in all 3 modes of interpreting.

I have lived about half my life in
Mexico and the other half in the US. I have a full grasp of the vocabulary,
idioms and expressions from both countries. I am a native speaker in both
English and Spanish.

Over the years, I have translated
hundreds if not thousands of pages and documents ranging from school curricula,
to Bible studies, books, manuals, songs etc.

My parents were missionaries in
Mexico. At a young age, I started interpreting for families and groups that
went down to Mexico to work. From American doctors who visited hospitals and
clinics in Hermosillo to construction crews who needed to coordinate with
Spanish speaking workers. Interpreted for missionary conferences and classes.
Some simultaneous and consecutive interpreting for sermons at church.

Teaching ESL for 8 years naturally
gave me years of translating and interpreting experience working with students
and parents. Translated numerous curricula from English to Spanish. Translated
work books and study guides from English to Spanish. Translation related to the
exchange program for the University of Hermosillo.

I was born and raised in Hermosillo,
Sonora, Mexico. My parents moved to Mexico after they were married, and I lived
my first 18 years there. I grew up speaking both languages, attending bilingual
schools. I moved to Phoenix for a few years to attend college then moved back
to Hermosillo and taught ESL at the University of Hermosillo. I then moved to
Guadalajara, Jalisco and continued teaching ESL at PROULEX (Programa
Universitario de Lenguas Extranjeras) at the University of Guadalajara. I spent
some time in Sarajevo, Bosnia also teaching ESL. I have now been in Phoenix for
about 17 years. I worked for CenturyLink in their bilingual call center, worked
13 years there. I handled both English and Spanish speaking customers and
translated for other departments who did not have Spanish speaking
representatives.
