I believe this is exactly the point the OP was trying to make. The issue is not Gmail itself. Many legitimate professionals use Gmail addresses.
The concern arises when someone claims to be the Founder & CEO of an established company but contacts you through a generic email address unrelated to the company’s official domain.

In that context, it becomes a red flag because it does not match the professional identity the person is claiming to represent.
Of course, a Gmail address alone does not prove that someone is a scammer, but combined with other warning signs (fake payment confirmations, Telegram communication, requests for upfront fees, etc.), it is a relevant element to consider.
A red flag I personally pay attention to is when people introduce themselves as “Mr”, “Mrs” or “Dr” in unsolicited business emails.
This alone is not proof of anything, but combined with generic wording, exaggerated compliments and a lack of a verifiable corporate identity, it often matches patterns I have seen in scam attempts.
The use of a Gmail address, particularly one containing random numbers, is another red flag in this specific context. It is not because Gmail itself is suspicious, but because someone claiming to represent an established company would normally be expected to use a professional email address linked to that company’s domain.
These are the types of messages I have increasingly been seeing in my inbox lately, and they are immediately deleted.

The gmail address is a red flag. "We like your work so much". Have they really seen enough of your work to make an evaluation? Have they seen the original text and your transcription of it. Beware of flattery. There is a Japanese proverb:
"amai kotoba, kurai michi" ("honeyed words often lead to dark passages").

Hi guys,

Just a quick update on this. After implementing the Supervertaler MCP Server, I started using it on real translation jobs, as follows:

• I open a project in Trados Studio 2026.
• I open a fresh chat in Claude for Desktop and give it a prompt along these lines:

I'm translating a project from English into Dutch, and I have it open in Trados Studio 2026. Please analyze the project.

As you'll see, a large portion of it is already 100% and CM (context) matches – i.e. confirmed. As a rule, we can ignore any confirmed segment. Your job is to translate the rest and make sure it's consistent with the whole document.

It's also your job to make sure the whole document is consistent and correct. If you find things in already-confirmed segments that aren't correct, you can fix them.

If you find a segment that isn't confirmed, isn't set to translated, and has a high fuzzy match (say 93–95%), you can use it as a reference – but make sure to insert a 100% correct translation. Don't just copy high matches or use them without thinking.

Please also consult all the client's notes and references in this folder: D:\Example\refs

You can also look at the source document as a PDF for reference if you need it: D:\Example\Example source document.pdf

I then translate the project interactively in Studio, just by chatting with Claude.

I don't even touch my keyboard – I use Wispr Flow for all the communication. I keep the Claude chat window open on one monitor, with Trados Studio on my main monitor. As I talk to Claude, I can watch things update in real time in my Trados project.

If Claude is unable to do something, I simply switch to the Claude Code tab in the Claude for Desktop app and tell Claude Code to implement it. It gets to work, and I switch back to the translation chat tab to carry on. This lets me improve the system iteratively while using it to translate a real project at the same time!

If anyone would like to try this themselves, feel free to grab the trial version of Supervertaler for Trados ( [url removed] ). If you have any questions at all, just ask me here or at [email removed] . Incidentally, the trial period is 14 days, but I would be more than happy to extend it as long as you need.

While this is how it works on some computers, on most computers OneDrive behaves differently. It creates a folder named "OneDrive" and then it creates subfolders e.g. "Documents" and then it moves your files from the original default "Documents" folder into its own OneDrive/Documents folder. If you delete those files or folders, you are deleting your actual files. You also can't simply copy or move the files back to the original empty Documents folder, because it affects things like file linking. Also, Windows now considers the OneDrive/Documents folder to be your new default Documents folder, which is why programs like MemoQ does that too.

This may be true on systems where OneDrive did not create a OneDrive/'Documents" etc. folder, but YMMV on systems where OneDrive create a OneDrive folder with subfolders.

It is true that one can use OneDrive as passive storage, but the usual way OneDrive works doesn't just do passive storage: it provides syncing. If you have successfully figured out how to use OneDrive's passive storage, then you can e.g. delete files from the cloud without affecting the files on your computer. But if your OneDrive is set up to do syncing, deleting a file in the cloud will also cause it to be deleted on your computer.

Hi Artem,

After serious disappointment from corporate TBMS products, I am a translator going his own way.

I used BACCS through my Proz account and was very satisfied. RWS then bought out BACCS, and all of a sudden I couldn't get access to my vendors in the "new-and-improved" Trados Business Manager. The program also had a funny habit of deleting my information and forcing me to re-enter it. :evil:

It just so happened that RWS had a more expensive version available. Come to your own conclusions.

After putting up to this for too long, I took a deep dive into Excel and VBA. I am just finishing my study of userforms and plan to do my management system myself, I am going my own way.

I would suggest young translators learn Excel and be master of your own universe. The subscription prices are not worth it.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience and opinions about our professional past, present and future. It is very important to know, that I'm not alone in this changing world of translations.

I had my doubts (there were reasons for that), but now I'm sure: the world still needs human translation. Quite often, in the form of post-editing. But we as translators are definitely still needed.

Tools, platforms and artificial intelligence capabilities are evolving. They change the whole workflow: lower rates & additional steps (like translation delivery via cloud tools and platforms) on the one hand and higher MTPE speeds (due to meaningful TB and TM-suggestions) & easy QA on the other hand = still interesting tasks and good income.

But the most important thing is human relationships in our translation teams: understanding, confidence, sometimes even patience))

My established clients (translation agencies) use new features wisely and appropriately. That way, we can continue working without any worries about the future of the profession.

Finding good new clients isn't easy, but it is possible.

Dear colleagues, I sincerely hope you'll have fewer doubts and more self-confidence.

Hi Eric,

Most of the features you list in your post are, I would say, already handled more than adequately using memoQ, and the majority of issues I face as a translator in video game translation have more to do with poor project management rather than any issues in the CAT tool itself.

My main point here is that, in nearly 15 years as a translator, I've been asked to work with any number of "user-friendly" proprietary tools which ALWAYS, without exception, slow down my work, because I have to then relearn how to do everything. For me, it's better to keep using a program I'm familiar with and can already work in quite rapidly. Maybe your translators are internal employees only, in which case it's reasonable to ask them to use your system, but as a freelancer, I have actually started charging extra to any agencies that require the use of a tool other than memoQ, Trados Studio, Phrase, or even Microsoft Office itself, just because of the extra time it always takes. I don't believe it's necessary to keep reinventing the wheel here.

If there are issues on the project preparation end, I'm completely blind to those as they aren't usually my problem, but I would say then that it would be better to develop a tool that solves those issues and then allows importation into an existing CAT tool rather than a tool that replaces the existing CAT tool.

Since there's been a bit of discussion here about Russian words, I will add, in terms of Korean-English, and if you are going ahead with developing your own tool, it would be very nice if someone could solve the following problems:

1) False positives with single-character termbase entries, like 은 = Silver and 힘 = Strength, that then get flagged in QA for every instance when the terms aren't (and shouldn't be) used rather than only when they actually are the intended terms;
2) QA errors with missing numbers in things like 5월 because there is no way to inform the program that 5월 is May and should not be translated using a 5.

It is an additional field where the translator puts the additional words which determine the translation if they are present in source, usually not adjacent. The examples run, screaming, away, for the sake of illustration -- you put "gauge" into the source field, and you put "pressure" or "wire" into the "context" field, instead of "pressure gauge" and "wire gauge" as source terms, because "pressure" and "wire" often drift about the source text.

So when you translate:

I received the project offer from a woman named Alice Gallagher. She identified herself as a project coordinator for Alleghis Transcription, and she also offered me $1,630 US dollars for that project, even though she did not know who I was. The email address is: [email removed]

I think that's not quite correct. Your files are stored in the "Documents" folder (if that's where you store them) and One Drive syncs that folder. If you stop One Drive from syncing this folder (and any others), it will throw a tantrum, but the files in the "Documents" folder and on One Drive will remain intact. Do not delete anything (yet). When you stop syncing your files, you can start copying / moving them as you see fit.

FWIW, I have never kept any documents, work files, images etc. on the same drive as my system (i.e. C:). Always on a separate physical drive, if only possible. This greatly simplifies system reinstalls.

Another thing - not syncing doesn't prevent me from using One Drive as passive storage space - I just copy stuff there and it sits there as long as I need.

Hello Eric,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. However, to me, your site looks more like an internal agency workflow than a finished product. While it’s nice that you want to showcase and share your workflow, you really need to handle unsupported formats more gracefully. I guess the issue I encountered came from my file's data structure not being compatible with your design, such that your software failed to correctly read and visualize the incompatible data, triggering a continuous retry loop. That is essentially a software bug. You need to handle this type of issue more cleanly.

As for your concept (if I understand correctly), you seem to aim to offer a tool that processes any XLSX structure by automatically detecting the column to be translated, extracting the text, and sending it to an LLM. You want this column extraction to happen automatically, without human intervention? That’s a good idea, but the process is rather delicate and tricky. To achieve this, you first need to extract the data structure as a JSON tree and then detect or identify the key or label for the column containing the text to be extracted (to be translated). Only then can your current workflow proceed to extract the text and send it to the LLM.

And yes, I agree that having all TB entries start with upper case is bad practice, but not much I can do on that end, since this is a long running project that I inherited.
