Given the increase in the number of new agencies run by clueless owners, as well as the variety of scams described here on Proz, risk management is not a waste of time and effort for new translators. I believe that most of us who have been at this for a while have developed an instinct for sniffing out bad or incompetent actors. We've acquired research skills that help discover whether a potential client is worth taking on. We call it common sense, but for new translators, it's a conscious skill that has to be developed. | | |
