overdraft protection
This may not be applicable to large-scale financing situations, but there many banks nowadays that offer "overdraft protection", if you also have a credit card through them. If you overdraw your bank account, your credit card would automatically cover that amount overdrawn. That way, you would be protected from any ISF charges or checks returned.
