Spanish to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) bank accounts
The title of this topic is Información de Operaciones referentes a Productos de Catacion. The target audience is in Mexico.

"Corresponde al Estado donde se están efectuando las operaciones referentes a Productos de Captación".

I was rather confused by this term. Deposit accounts seems to be the only phrase that makes sense.

Maria, Thank you. Yes, we talk about bank takings. I can see contexts where takings would be good, but maybe not with 'takings products'. I will bear the word in mind in the future though. Thanks again.

Captaciones are "takings" (client investments) and colocaciones are "placings" (loans). No need to translate "product" here. Lots of byproducts within these two large categories.

Products to attract (new clients)

The Spanish banks have been trying to attract new clients by offering high interest rates on their deposits ("productos" in this case). Here are a few examples in the spanish economic press: "Guerra para captar más clientes", "La guerra por captar pasivo", "La guerra por captar depósitos" When you "captar" a client you are attracting a client to your product or business. The heading in this example refers to bank accounts. So, I assume they are trying to gain more clients.

You don't need to translate "products" here. Takings (deposits) and placings (loans) are the two big generic denominations for bank products.

Captación: money received in the form of deposits, the term comes from captar, to receive, money received from third parties for which the bank pays interest
Colocación: money lent as credit to the government and/or private parties, the term comes from colocar, to place, money placed with third parties for which the bank receives interest
