Yes that was probably one of the links I saw. I have delivered two big translations in the last two days or so. In all the rush I have mislaid my sheet of Alt character codes which is how we have to put umlauts into German texts here in the UK. Last week the temperatures were up above 30 degree Celsius for much of the UK This week they are in the low twenties. This is much better for me and I hope to have most of tomorrow off. :-) Best regards, Stephen

All of the (few) links I found refer to expertise and capabilities (Stock as an inventory of expertise, if you will), which is why they wouldn't match your source.

As far-fetched as it may sound at first, there is only the "p" separating the "o" and "ü" on a German keyboard (whereas the umlaut "ö" is one row below both, interestingly enough; bit more complicated on Swiss keyboards: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tastaturbelegung#Schweiz ...but who knows), so it's reasonable to assume someone was simply typing too fast. Shouldn't happen in a legal document, but I guess it wouldn't be a first. Or Trados messed up something during import.

Kompetenzstuecke Thanks again for your help, Johanna and everyone else who contributed. This answer explained the legal principle but Adrian's answer explained the what the word means. I combined both your answers in my translation and I wanted to split the points between Johanna and Adrian. I am sure i did this many years ago but the website will not let me do it now, sorry. Adrian and Vjorn were right about the spelling but I did find Kompetenzstock(e) on at least one website.

@Stephen For glossary purposes: This must be a typo. Even Swiss pages only say "Kompetenzstücke." You won't be able to find one single instance of "Kompetenzstocke" (and "Kompetenzstock" in the singular is something else).
