English term

ever-constant conviction

English to Italian Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters eresie del seicento
It is my turn to raise an eyebrow. “The point, Jerome, is that casting horoscopes is dangerous. It looks like magic. It looks like casting spells, or suggesting mystical influences can intervene. Your horoscope of Christ is, to them–” I point to the door, “–an attempt to twist God’s arm. It is a suggestion that the planets – the creation – can control the Creator.”
Jerome’s expression is blank. He is staring at the door, following my still-extended finger. Eventually, the spell breaks and he raises an eyebrow at me. “So what should I do, my guardian angel?”
His ever-constant conviction is touching. “You still have friends in high places,” I suggest. “Cardinal Morone, for one. And Archbishop Hamilton. Didn’t he write you a letter offering help if you ever needed it?”
