German term
Atlantis
German to English
Art/Literary
Religion
Zen and haiku poetry
This is from a text about the influence of Zen Buddhism on the USA in general and the poets of the Beat Generation, inparticular in the1940's and 50's. This section is aboute ecummings' study of Chinese written characters - ideograms - The term Atlantis seems to mean something like "ideal country live in." Is thiscorrect and is there a better way of putting it?

Note from asker:
Thanks Wendy. I was aware of the myth of Atlantis and thought it was probably based on history. I did not realise that people used to refer to a lost idealised place though. My bad. |
