لا يوجد سلطة عالمية توحد التسميات لهذه المناصب وواجباتها ووميزاتها وسلطاتها هذا اولاً وثانياً تعتبر المناصب وتسمياتها وقوة تأثيرها نسبية اي مختلفة حسب امور عديدة فهي مسألة داخلية تعود للشركة او المؤسسة او الادارة الحكومية وهي تختلف من بلد إلى اخر ومن شركة إلى اخرة
لذلك هناك تعريفات متضاربة لكل المناصب الادارية العليا فقد يكون مثلاُ
director = مدير منتخب في مجلس ادارة /مدير
