español term

óleo aguada

español al inglés Otros Arte, artes manuales, pintura
A technique used by a contemporary Argentine painter.
I know the terms oil paint, of course, and gouache, but not sure how they combine here:

No hace bocetos, solo imprime trazos de óleo aguada en sus telas, e inicia sus obras.

Thanks

philgoddard Jan 10:
Maybe it should be 'óleo y aguada' - I don't think it makes sense without this, not least because it should be 'aguado'.

Aguada also means glaze, so it may not be gouache.

PETER DOIG Y LAS AGUADAS EN PINTURA AL ÓLEO

https://www.ttamayo.com/2016/02/peter-doig-las-aguadas-pintu...

Generally, my paintings are made with thinned-out oil paint. Over time, different areas are built up and made more opaque. The sense of light, space and mood of a painting does not come naturally (or by a known skill) but through working, and often by chance. This can be frustrating. The hardest thing for me has always been what to paint and why - I spend more time thinking about this than painting.

Peter Doig was born in Edinburgh in 1959. He is represented by Victoria Miro, London, Gavin Brown's Enterprise, New York and Michael Werner, New York

I think it refers to pintura al óleo. As 'pintura' is a feminine noun, it requires a feminine adjective.

'Aguada' means 'watered down' but in the case of oil paint, turpentine or other solvents are used.

El lavado o aguada es la aplicación de un color muy disuelto en determinadas zonas, generalmente hendiduras, recovecos o en piezas sobresalientes.

Se hace con el fin de acentuar las sombras y, en consecuencia, el contraste; también para obtener mayor dibujo, pues es una manera de perfilar con suavidad, algo así como la técnica opuesta al pincel seco, mientras que uno oscurece el otro aclara. Son técnicas complementarias entre sí.

neutral philgoddard : But it doesn't say 'pintura'. If aguada were an adjective, it would not agree with 'óleo', which is why I think it may be a noun. Also, wouldn't 'thinned' be 'diluido'? Aguado implies water.

Also "óleo" is masculine, so how come it says "aguada"?
