Aptitudinea de calcul este priceperea ce se dezvolta in special in matematica, dar totodata si in alte subecte. Este mai mult decat o abilitate de a face calcule aritmetice. Ea implica dezvoltarea increderii si competentei cu numere si masuri. Necesita intelegerea sistemului numeric, repertoriului tehnicilor matematice si o inclinatie si abilitate spre rezolvarea problemelor cantitative sau spatiale in diferite contexte. Abilitatea de calcul necesita totodata si intelegerea diferitelor moduri in care datele sunt acumulate prin adunare si masurare, apoi prezentate prin grafice, diagrame, harti si tabele.
