English term

sworn off driving....

English to Spanish Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. Sociology
I would like to know the best translation of this phrase from American English into Latin American Spanish.

Colleagues from Spain, feel free to send me your suggestions as well. This is a translation about sociology.

Here is the full paragraph for your review:

My eldest son has basically sworn off driving (to make a point of how expansive public transportation is, he rode every single bus route in San Francisco in a single day).

Juró dejar de conducir

Mi hijo mayor básicamente se comprometió/juró dejar de conducir;

"sworn off driving" is a strange expression in my eyes; " swore to give up driving" sounds more natural to me;

Thanks Andrew.
Peer comment(s):

agree José Patrício : La frase es algo metafórica ya que swear off significa emplear palabras ofensivas y pienso que aquí significa oposición.

ha jurado dejar de conducir

El original dice: "has basically sworn off driving".
Es importante reproducir tanto el tiempo del verbo (pretérito perfecto) como el sentido de "basically".
Traducción:
"... ha jurado prácticamente dejar de conducir"

Muchas gracias Beatriz.
