French term

(Mon) Ressenti

French to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting Descriptions to accompany an artist's paitings
I am transcribing some handwritten notes provided by an artist to accompany his paintings on a website. I also need to translate the notes into English.

Each section appears to contain the name of the painting, a short description, then a category.

The categories are things like "MER", "NATURE", "ANIMAL". One such category is "RESSENTI" (in one case "MON RESSENTI").

Obviously "FELT" sounds appalling. I am wondering if "FEELINGS" would be acceptable? I can revert to the client's agent and ask for clarification if it is not obvious to someone on the forum. The artist's spelling is not brilliant in parts!

Thanks for any help.

Discussion

Anne Bitton (asker) May 10, 2015:
Thanks for all discussion, which has helped.
Nikki Scott-Despaigne May 10, 2015:
"ressenti" is not "feelingS" so much as "feeling about" something. It describes the way one feels about something.

In context, as a heading, "imrpessions" may be a good trade off.
Chakib Roula May 10, 2015:
May be he is referring to 'impressions"?
Francis Murphy (X) May 10, 2015:
Do these fit? I agree that "felt" is the artist's meaning, but in English it is the wrong word in this context. You could use "interpretations", or "sensations" or perhaps "my impressions". Possibly "concepts". Otherwise, I suggest consulting some art sites in English, to see how they classify by theme.

how about perception?
