In the context of an outdoor sculpture: "un rapport sur l'état sanitaire est commandé"

I would have translated as "condition report" but there is a separate reference for this.

Any ideas?

It looks like it's a condition survey.

@polyglot If it were simply ‘condition report’, I would expect something like ‘rapport sur l’état de conservation’. My feeling is that this may be a particular aspect of a condition report.

the report is clearly about taking stock of the condition of the scuplture. Is it "sain" ? in other words, is it in good enough condition to withstand and warrant repairs

Cleanliness? Does it have to do with maintaining the cleanliness of the sculpture, after being subjected to various kinds of pollutants, of whatever kind (human germs, dirty particles in the air)?

@Sandra It would be part of a materials survey, I’m sure. I can’t immediately find the glossaries I often use - not near my computer, but there are certainly specialist conservation glossaries online somewhere.

@Helen Parts of the sculpture are unstable so safety/risk is certainly a possibility. I'm also thinking along the lines of "materials survey" - an analysis of the condition of the materials used (mostly metal and tiles) as this would indicate the extent of deterioration.

@Sandra I presume this would be the equivalent of the health and safety report containing a risk assessment relating to the installation of the piece in the public realm, but unsure whether it is something more specific.

The Monuments Historiques glossary referenced in the discussions gives "condition survey" as a translation. However, I felt this was too similar to "condition report" and so opted for "survey of the physical condition of the work". I added a note to the file and will update if the client provides feedback after their holidays. Thank you again."

This is the literal translation, and a metaphor used in both French and English. However, 'state of repair' may be preferred.
