French term

triés sur le carreau

French to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
A description of one of the events at a cultural arts festival:

Tout vu :
Attendons-nous à bouffer de la télé, mais pas vautré-tranquille-dans-l’canapé comme d’habitude… Au menu, 24 télés diffusant autant de programmes du monde entier triés sur le carreau. Aux baguettes, les quatre acteurs de Transquinquennal et Jan Hammenecker.
A ne pas zapper.

French term (edited): tris sur le carreau
Selected

hand-picked

Last I knew, "hand-picked" was the standard expression for the meaning of 'carefully selected', at least in U.S. English, though top-of-the-line might also do in this context.

If you Google \"sur le carreau\" a lot of hits will give you \"sur le volet\" in the sample sentence fragments.
