Discussion

David BUICK (asker) Sep 7, 2007:
Clarifications and lack thereof Sorry, don't know the diameter - variable - but in fact I think this is just to shove cleaning apparatus inside the ducting. It's for HVAC not water, sorry for the confusion, I just did a quick GiS for a picture. As so often for me, I could visualise the sort of thing they were on about but was casting around for a term.
Tony M Sep 7, 2007:
Is the picture you've given the link to specifically connected with your context, or is that just one you've found, as it's related to PVC water pipes... not HVAC ducting!
Tony M Sep 7, 2007:
Please specify what kind of 'gaines' these are — are we talking about ventilation ducts, and if so, just how big are they? i.e. big enough to actually physically get inside, or smaller than that? Will change the translation, so it's vital to know...

inspection cover

"tampon" being the cover of a manhole, etc., not the manhole itself.

If for cleaning, you might want to research in the direction of "cleaning eye" or "rodding eye". That is certainly said of drain pipes, and is what the PVC things in your pictures would be called. Don't know that cleaning is an aspect of HVAC systems, and certainly not rodding, but it is possible that the insides of air ducts have to be wiped down periodically to remove layers of dust. The sort of thing that is recommended, I imagine, but never actually done! Don't believe those images you see in films when people escape through air-conditioning ducts that are bright and sparkling on the inside!

agree xvsy : Yes, 'manhole' would be overkill for mere ducting.
