And since I am also disgusted by this dessert I would like to offer the French recette which is evne more disgusting:

BLANCMANGER

Prenez une poule, vuidez-la : lavez-la dans l'eau, faites-la cuire dans l'eau avec deux pieds de veau dont vous aurez ôté les os : le tout étant cuit, & ayant formé une gelée, passez la gelée à travers une serviette : mettez-y du sucre, de la canelle, de l'écorce de citron ; faites bouillir le tout quelque tems & dégraissez-le.
Ensuite pilez une demie livre d'amandes douces, & huit ou dix ameres après les avoir pelées à l'eau chaude, les arrosant de lait : passez le Blanc-manger avec les amandes deux ou trois fois dans une étamine ; lavez l'étamine & repassez-le encore une fois afin qu'il soit bien blanc, dégraissez-le, glacez-le ; étant bien gelé, servez-le froid.

I hated the stuff... horrid and pink and typical of school dinners. Mind you, the kind of stuff they serve in posh restaurants here is a far cry from all that!!
