disagree Tony M : Although clearly this term exists, in the last 3 refs. you suggest it means 'a chemical system that is fragile', and I don't think this is Asker's context; the first ref. does sound more hopeful, though...

neutral David Sirett : I would suggest that "fine chemistry" is relatively little used in 'native', rather than translated, English, that "fine chemicals" is much more widely used, and that some other term which presently escapes me would probably be best in this context!

organic chemistry

after a little detective work, it appears organic chemistry and 'la chimie fine' both work mainly in the area of perfumes, drugs, dyes, pigments etc.
Fine chemicals is used fairly often, but fine chemistry is used mainly in translation, unless preceded by organic. Further, most UK based university courses make no mention to 'fine chemistry'.
