Although Catherine's "desktop applications" is a standard term here, I'm wondering if it might need something else because of the contrast with "applications métier": the "métier" applications are presumably the specialised software systems (e.g. for architects, urban planners, ...), and the "bureautique" the bog standard office stuff, word processing, spreadsheet, etc. And I think "desktop" is more of a generic term that would cover both these types of applications (they are all applications that can be accessed from a desktop computer), hence the need for a different, slightly more specific term.

I agree with Philippa's reasoning -- as in you may need to be more specific -- but I think you have to be careful with "office", even with a small "o", since it implies Microsoft, which may not be the case...

Yet another variant, motivated by the observation that 'bureautique' is typically translated as 'office automation'. (Except by the software vendors, who want you to think of them as 'office productivity applications'.)
