French term

Actionneur court interrupteur de sécurité 55x30

French to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Polishing machine parts list
This is a list with unfortunately no other context. We can all translate the words - but what does it mean? Short safety switch actuator ... or is it something else?
Proposed translations (English)
3 +3 Actuator, short, safety switch, 55x30

Discussion

Bourth (X) Nov 13, 2011:
I suspect it means that the actuator measures 55x30 and has a safety switch built in.
claude-andrew (asker) Nov 13, 2011:
Thanks chaps. Yes, I remember now those long-bladed microswitches.
meirs Nov 13, 2011:
@kashew Thanks for the compliment - "M" was the UK secret service boss in James Bond books. In any case, I think that "Actionneur" is Frenglish from "actuator".
meirs Nov 13, 2011:
parts list style Because in EN all the adjectives and attributes precede the subject, military style parts lists entries are phrased like this:
Actuator, short, microswitch, 55x30 - so the subject is first
kashew Nov 13, 2011:
With Mr M Isn't that usually "pommeau" in FR?
meirs Nov 13, 2011:
actuator (plunger) - short I am inclined to think that it is a actuator (plunger) - short style (as opposed to long style) of a safety microswitch. Peer opinions ?

Selected

Actuator, short, safety switch, 55x30

or "...safety switch 55x30" - the comma makes the difference between the 55x30 dimension being of the actuator (with comma) or of the safety switch (without comma)
Safety switch can also be called just "interlock"
