French term

Alesages successifs 10-12-13

French to English Medical Medical (general)
This appears in an operation report and my main question is in regards to the numbers 10, 12 and 13.

The text states:

"Alesages successifs 10 - 12 - 13 en diaphysaire puis en 15 en proximal"

"Successive boring 10 - 12 - 13 in the diaphyseal then 15 in the proximal"?

Any explanation would be great thanks.

Discussion

SJLD Apr 20, 2012:
Refers to the size of the shaft reamers used successively - obviously getting bigger
Successive reaming of the (femoral?) shaft - diaphyseal would not be very idiomatic. In any case, diaphyseal is an adjective - the noun is diaphysis.

Note from asker:
Hi Liz, thanks for that I was also thinking it was the depth, it would make sense. Could you try submitting the link again as it states that the page cannot be found.
Sorry yes diameter not depth, thanks
Peer comments on this reference comment:

agree Tony M : Usually, alésage refers to the diameter of something, not the depth. Don't know about medical, though!
