French term

survenu sur un terrain médical compliqué

French to English Medical Medical (general) Wrist fracture discharge summary
I'm particularly not sure about how to handle the terms "survenu sur" and "un terrain medical complique". Context: The woman fell and is being treated for a Colles' fracture.
"La chute est survenu sur un terrain medical compliqué en raison d'une corticotherapie au long cours du myeloma"

By try:
"The fall occurred within a complicated medical predisposition resulting from long-term corticosteroid therapy for myeloma"
or possibly "...occurred within in a complicated medical context resulting from..."

Thank you in advance and Mery Christmas and Happy Hanukah and holidays to everyone!

@ Ormiston and all That's a nice solution too :)
ormiston Dec 27, 2019:
What about ..."compounded by", followed by one of the suggestions below?
liz askew Dec 26, 2019:
The patient had a fall in a context of a medical history complicated by long-term corticosteroid therapy for myeloma.
liz askew Dec 26, 2019:
Turn the sentence round,
The patient had a fall...
philgoddard Dec 25, 2019:
I think "within a predisposition" sounds slightly odd, but your second suggestion is fine.

turned into a complicated medical case

I would turn the sentence around, like
'An existing long term corticosteroid therapy for myeloma turned the fall into a complicated medical case.'
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Long-term.

disagree Drmanu49 : No the case was complicated before the fall.// certainly not turned into

therefore 'an existing .. therapy' which made further treatment complicated

happened to a woman who already had a complicated medical history

I don't think "turned into" is right as the complicated medical background was prior to the fall as far as I understand the phrase.
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : You can't say "a woman" because this is a discharge summary.

13 juil. 2016 - Dexamethasone and the other steroids are useful in myeloma treatment because they can stop white blood cells from traveling to areas where cancerous myeloma cells are causing damage. This decreases the amount of swelling or inflammation in those areas and relieves associated pain and pressure.

This sounds the most medical jargon-y to me, while still being as straightforward as the FR original. I agree with Liz Askew that "in the context of a medical history" is the best translation for "sur un terrain médical."
