neutral Tony M : I know we speak of 'non-destructive testing', but since the object is not actually to destroy the specimen, but simply to find out at what loading it fails, I'm not sure if this is truly technically accurate?

Yes, I'm extreme! I think failure test is good here// In other cases (examining etc.where one is not actually busting something up) I think DESTRUCTIVE is fine as opposed to NON DESTRUCTIVE. DT and NDT.

disagree Tony M : That's actually a CVD, not applicable in this context.

failure load test

I've changed my answer because this one has been niggling me for the last few hours. In structural design and material resistance the term "charge à la ruine" is translated as "failure load"
