French term

carton double micron

French to English Tech/Engineering Printing & Publishing POS advertising
This is from a spec for point-of-sale materials. A display stand is to be made in the form of rugby goalposts. The product name is printed on the "pads" around the base of the posts and this is what's causing me problems.

"Habillage bas des poteaux, soit par représentation des protections en carton double micron avec impression 1 cl, soit par mousse alvéolaire avec revêtement bâche PVC impression 1 cl + oeillets et sandows de laçage".

No joy for "double micron" with board, cardboard or paperboard.

Discussion

David Goward (asker) Sep 27, 2006:
Thanks, chaps! I've asked the customer whether a figure is missing, as suggested by Tony, or whether there the "n" is surplus to requirements, as suggested by "Bourth". I'll let you know.
Tony M Sep 26, 2006:
There are quite a few Ghits for 'carton double' (as distinct from carton simple) and this one translates it as linerboard:

Tony M Sep 26, 2006:
I strongly suspect that the figure for the thickness is missing just in front of the 'micron'; if you read it as 'carton double, X micron', it would make much more sense!

Something like F-flute linerboard (credit to Dusty).

"Micron" should read "micro", I feel, as below:

Présentoir de comptoir porte fiche :
carton micro cannelure
affiche imprimée quadri offset
vernis machine
Box présentoir de comptoir :
carton double double micro
Impression 3 couleurs sérigrahie
vernis UV
dimensions 800x600x1500

Sorry to say so, Dusty, but it looks as if "linerboard" is wrong, linerboard being the outer (flat) facing on one or both side of the corrugated medium. What we have here appears to be "DOUBLE-WALL MICROFLUTE BOARD", quite possibly simply "MICROFLUTE" :

Double and triple-wall corrugated is also manufactured for specialized industrial applications and, at the other extreme, microflute is manufactured for fine printed packaging or displays or presentation packaging for high-value contents such as spirits, perfume, jewellery, etc. Almost all corrugated boxes are shipped flat for ease and economy of transport, then erected, filled and closed at packing stations.
