"C’est sûr que [name of sneaker brand] ils sont arrivés, ils ont un peu leur place dans le poulet-racaille machin, donc c’est un peu dur de faire leur place, mais vu qu’ils aident pas mal de riders et tout, c’est cool quoi."
From the internet, in SMS language:

As I understand it:
poulet = "cop" / "pig"
racaille = scum

in my "hood"
Hello,
In North American English, this may work.
mon poulet-racaille = in my street pack (not necessarily a street gang, though)
I hope this helps.

Comment: "I used "a kind of 'ghetto trash' image", (associated with rap music, possibly). You're closest to that idea. Thanks for all the input from everyone -- tricky question. "

cop-thug
My guess is that this means in the cops against scum/thugs/hooligans/scoundrels thing (i.e. "war").
I think the term is used differently in the second ref you have found. In that context it looks to be designating a guy from the "banlieue", possibly of North African origin who has become a policeman.

chav-cop thing
is the best I can think of.
Presumably the "rider class" consider themselves to be several fathoms above the chav class which has nothing better to do than antagonize the cops, and each "class" associates itself with a particular brand of footwear (or the footwear is associated with it, or the chicken with the egg, or something).
So poulet racaille machin could mean "the sub-group of young, underprivileged/educated members of urban society which delights in antagonizing law-enforcement officers and identifies itself with certain items of apparel, including footwear of a certain brand".

"Long"? Couldn't you have said "overly thorough and comprehensive" .... Damn, there I am doing it again ...
A/C to Wiki, chavs are predom. white and wear Burberry (fake). My son is predom. white (has a bit of Indian blood), nice, polite, well-educated and enjoys skateboarding (esp. on XBox, which is not too physical!) but is not a chav.

Note from asker:
I'm doing US English for this one, your "chav" has made me think of "ghetto scum"... |
Your last answer is excellent, if a tad long. ;-))))) Cheers! |
And without turning this into a race thing, most of the kids interviewed in my piece seem to be nice, polite, well-educated white kids. |

cop-gang bangers
pig is a little dated. It sounds too sixties.

gang banging does not mean anything sexual in the US. It means being a member of a gang prone to violence, which is what the French racaille is.

: I agree with your comment about "pig", but "gang bangers" means "gang rapists", I haven't heard it used as a more general expression/You're right, my mistake. Asker will know if it scans in his neck of the woods.

Pas du tout. Banger ne signifie pas violeurs dans cett expression. Veuillez vérifier la signification sur Internet.
