French term

MIC

French to English Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) cellphone relay station signal cables
It's being used in connection with cellular phone relay station equipment, and is used in such a way as to describe what appears to be an incoming signal cable --- they are described as '120 ohm twisted pairs', and there are quite a lot of them being connected to a kind of distribution board. That's all well and good, but I need to know if MIC is an abbreviation already in English or not!
Now I know that MIC = PCM [pulse coded modulation], but that doesn't seem quite right as a description for a signal cable (though I acknowledge that it IS possible!) 'incoming PCMs'?
Does anyone else out there have more specific knowledge of this field?

Note to Jane: Bizarre! When I decline, the 'add a note box comes back'!
Regarding 'more context', I'm afraid there IS no sentence, it is just a sort of list item; the only surrounding information is as I stated, the '120 ohm twisted pair' bit --- which sadly means it is pretty UNlikely to be an optical connector... But we'll see.... :)

Don't know if this helps but here goes:
I am enclosing a reference which seems to indicate that MIC is already an English abbreviation and another reference with possible abbreviations for MIC.
Problem is there are so many dang abbreviations for MIC but the one from Grand Dictionnaire is in telecomms.

Take care

1 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks PK! In spite of my earlier 'decline', the client has subsequently confirmed the meaning here as 'PCM', which was of course one of the GDT answers you suggested; so i feel it only fair to at least give you one little point, in thanks --- though my appreciation to ALL answerers goes way beyond the number of points available on KudoZ :-)"

Comment: "Thanks a lot Jane, for your research and wisdom, as ever. Turns out, against all my expectations, that it WAS in fact the 'PCM' meaning of the acronym; yet another example of an adjective being used in French to 'invent' a noun... I live and (sometimes!) learn... Cheers! 'Dusty'"
