French term

désapprête le tissu des produits

French to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Duvet covers - size/dressing
Hi,

I'm translating some pages from a French retail website into British English. The problematic phrase appears in relation to a duvet set and its washing instructions. Here it is below to give you some context:

'Le trempage désapprête le tissu des produits nécessaires au tissage tels que la colle'.

I can't think of a way of translating the phrase-in-question concisely, as I don't really have a background in textiles.

Could someone help please?

Many thanks in advance! :)

Maybe more context ? The way I understand the context as given here (retail website), I would not be so quick to choose "desizing"... That's just me...
Tony M Dec 13, 2015:
@ Dieezah The process you have just described is indeed that of 'sizing' (although the verb used does to some extent depend on the product used and/or the purpose, e.g. 'mordant' used in dyeing) — generally, 'size'/'sizing' is one of the commonest processes.
So 'desizing' seems a perfectly reasonable translation for 'désapprêter', in the absence of more detailed context to work from.
Dieezah Dec 13, 2015:
No, it's not... In french, 'apprêter un tissu (une toile)" means saturating it with products which will change its properties as in the way it holds or the way it reacts to other products like paints and so on and so forth... So what this is about is the reversal of the process I have just described to you...

Desizing is the process of removing the size material from the warp yarns after the textile fabric is woven. I don't know if that's what is being referred to here.

Meaning it removes the finishing/dressing agents such as size from the fabric.
Is the context about what to do before use when the item is new?
