In relation to 4x4 vehicle testing:
Prise d'impulsion: Action nécessaire lorsqu’un franchissement est impossible au pas : une légère accélération permet de donner suffisamment d’inertie au véhicule pour franchir.
Prise d'élan: Au-delà de la prise d’impulsion, une accélération franche et un passage en force caractérisent une prise d’élan. Cette méthode est à éviter et caractérisera un mauvais véhicule.
Have not a clue as to how to translate these two terms.

prise can be GRIP but that is misleading here...I think the prise means the vehicle responding to the acceleration...response?
response to impetus acceleration [ie gunning the damn thing!]
enrichment seems to be a type of acceleration...and pulse acceleration is a technical car term...
