Grinding=A method of refinishing a crankshaft's bearing journals and crankpins, valves &seats. Grinding removes significant amounts of damaged metal and produces journals and crankpins suitable for use with undersize bearings, or bearings with a smaller asssembled inside diameter than the standard one.
Honing=A method of removing metal from a cylinder bore. Honing is less aggressive (removes metal more gradually) than boring. The final step in finishing a cylinder is finish honing, which removes very little metal, and is used primarily to create the proper surface.

1.A tool that uses an abrasive to smooth out (hone) and bring to exact measurements such things as engine cylinders, Wheel cylinders, Bushings, etc.
2.A rotating instrument fitted with abrasive material used to remove roughness and deposits, and to polish the bores of wheel cylinders and master cylinders.

"Hone" traditionally means "to sharpen", but it seems to be used in this context too. Let the experts say whether (for example) "cylinder honing" and "cylinder grinding" are used interchangeably!
