An amalgamation - an entity with anew name - is not sysnonymous with a fusion or merger - the target businesses may retin the same name. West does outline various permutations of a merger with 'fusion by absorption, consolidation, creation and integration.' A US American law dictionary doesn'r even mention 'amalgamation' either. So I wonder this is a BrE, OzE or CanE creature. Having worked with reptilian Champagne-Socialist lawyers in the Co. Dept. specialising in M+ A in the City of London, I think it's wiser not to conflate the different schemes: 'A merger is where two or more business entities combine to create a new entity or company. An amalgamation is where one business entity acquires one or more business entities.' Example sentence(s):
