Does this simply mean"Extra non-destructive tests may be asked for by the inspectors during manufacture" or am I missing something?

"Acquisition" very frequently means data acquisition, so in this case it could mean additional or supporting X-ray or ultrasonic data, rather than hardware per se.

It could mean additional materials or equipment may be acquired, or additional samples taken for testing, but I don't think there's any way of knowing. What does it say before and after this?
