Discussion

Dylan Edwards Oct 10, 2013:
OK, sorry I caused some confusion!
Peter Close Oct 10, 2013:
To Dylan: In that case, thank you!
Dylan Edwards Oct 10, 2013:
My comment was simply intended as further confirmation of your answer, specifically in the context of vehicle registration in the Greek-English language pair. Your answer is certainly wider-ranging and gives some useful examples of usage: 'EC type-approved' etc.
Peter Close Oct 10, 2013:
I refer to Dylan’s discussion entry of 17:03, yesterday afternoon. I am sorry, Dylan, I may be a bit thick but I can’t understand what your trying to say. One of the reasons I included website links from Norway, The Netherlands, Denmark , Ireland and Europa.eu in my ‘answer box’ was so as to endeavour to demonstrate that the term ‘type approval’ is used for this purpose in English language texts in other countries of the EU, apart from the UK alone.
Dylan Edwards Oct 9, 2013:
As I understand it, this refers to registration of vehicles within the EU.
In the past, I have searched for English and Greek versions of the relevant EU forms, and found "type approval" in the English version.
Peter Close Oct 9, 2013:
I don't need more detail now. I am now 99.999% certain that the answer I have given, "(Vehicle) type approval", is correct. You can leave 'Vehicle' out if you prefer and just write, 'Type approval'.
tania mourtzila (asker) Oct 9, 2013:
unfortunately, i do not have more context, but i know it is an approval asked when you buy a vehicle from another country
Peter Close Oct 9, 2013:
Tania, If possible, please send more of the text so that we can all understand how the term is used.

(Vehicle) type approval

Type Approval or Certificate of Conformity is granted to a product that meets a minimum set of regulatory, technical and safety requirements. Generally, type approval is required before a product is allowed to be sold in a particular country, so the requirements for a given product will vary around the world.

agree Dylan Edwards : Yes, if this is on a Vehicle Registration Certificate, or something like that, there is a 'type approval number' for the vehicle.

agree Andras Mohay (X) : Processes and certifications known as Type Approval in English are generally called Homologation, or some cognate expression, **in other European languages** - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_approval‎.

Thank you. 'Type Approval' or 'Vehicle Type Approval' are the terms that are used for this purpose in English language documents covering licensing or registration of vehicles in the EU.
