English to Dutch: diamond trade china General field: Other Detailed field: Mining & Minerals / Gems
Source text - English Diamond export to China reached a record high in the first half of 2009. According to the Diamond Administration of China (DAC), while the international diamond market is facing a sluggish demand, China has a strong domestic consumption, especially in the wedding market, reaching a record high of USD300 million in the first half of 2009. This represents an increase of 12.7% compared to the same period of 2008. China has become the world’s third largest diamond consumption market.
Furthermore, since the implementation of China’s new diamond taxation policy, the Shanghai Diamond Centre has witnessed a steady growth, which adds to the attractiveness and stability of the economic environment.
“The Asian market is more crisis-proof than others. The exports of polished diamond from Antwerp to China have increased by 34,23% in carat volume in September 2009, compared to September 2008. We therefore want to enhance and stimulate further the exchange of diamond information and enforce a common ‘diamond culture’ between both diamond centres”, explains x.
English to Dutch: definition tiger kidnapping
Source text - English The term tiger kidnapping was first coined by the British police to denote a specific type of robbery in which the perpetrators pick their victims very carefully and only strike after having observed them for a long time, like tigers. Notwithstanding the fact that tiger kidnappings are a rare phenomenon, both the authorities and the police services as well as all the institutions concerned consider them a top priority. Not only because tiger kidnappings can be a very traumatizing experience for the victims, but also because of their strong impact on the sense of safety of the population and the xxx industry.
