Bio
Marta Stemberger, MA, is a native Slovene who’s been living, studying, and working in New York City since 1992. She earned her BA in Liberal Arts in 2000 and MA in Liberal Studies in 2003, both at The New School, with the focus on women studies through the lens of history and sociology; she was a teaching assistant for undergraduate and graduate courses in women’s intellectual history. Her roots, however, are in performance arts: she was trained at the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham schools; she recently received her artistic diploma in the movement art of eurythmy at Eurythmy Spring Valley in Chestnut Ridge, New York.

Ms. Stemberger is a regular contributor for the Newsletter, published by the Slovene Embassy in Washington, D.C. She writes a monthly article on Slovene American cultural exchange. In the mid 2000s, she has also worked at the Slovene Consulate in New York as the Cultural Events and Communications Officer.

Ms. Stemberger is a Slovene translator & interpreter with 20 years of experience as a linguist, primarily as a Slovene English & English Slovene translator & interpreter; she is fluent in English, Slovene, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, with a good comprehension of French. Through her work, Ms. Stemberger acquired expertise in pharmaceutical, medical, legal, financial fields, as well as diplomatic affairs; through her studies and experience, she acquired proficiency in humanities, social sciences, performing and visual arts, fashion/costume design and handicrafts.
