Almost 400 Km... Jul 17, 2006

Two days ago, we traveled almost 400 Km. to attend a powwow in La Plata. It was fun, and worth every kilometer!

I voted "More than 500 Km" by the way.

Best,
Andres

Already have Jul 18, 2006

I attended a powwow in Santiago, Chile, probably close to 8,000 kms. from my residence, El Paso, Texas, USA, the only one I've attended. Not a problem. I always look forward to returning to Chile for many reasons.

Last week I travelled 535 miles (860 km) to San Francisco to meet with 2 colleagues whom I have never met/talked to/communicated with before.

It was perfect! I am looking forward to the next Powwow, wherever it is.

I (still) don't know Jul 18, 2006

I believe I missed a few events close by. On the other hand, I travelled to France for the party just before a colleague got married, to Berlin cum conference just last May, and I believe my record was Buenos Aires.

Anyone holding a powwow on the moon?

What a pity... Jul 18, 2006

that so many people are answering that they're not interested in pow wows. They don't know what they're missing!

Why not attend? Jul 18, 2006

I'm astounded at the number of people who seem not to be interested in Powwows and I would be curious to hear why.

I attended a Powwow in Grenoble this winter (admittedly, only about 100km from my home) and it was a very interesting, informative, and fun evening.

Not only is it nice to finally put a face to someone's Proz page, but these events are also priceless for networking and discussing the profession.

Cheers,
Jocelyne

You're right Kit, they dont know what they are missing.
Aren't they curious? Or do they like to keep their illusions about fellow Prozians?
Just because I have some wrinkle more in reality?

My first powwow was in Bacharach (Rhein) in one of the most spectacular and beautiful regions of Germany. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacharach
Something like 300 km from my village. Travelling along the rhine with a slow train. Perfect approach to a perfect powwow in a cosy restaurant (historical monument). Alison Riddell Kachur did an excellent job in hosting this Christmas Powwow and the guided tour of her husband was witty and exciting.
My second Powwow was in Berlin which is more than 500 km away from here. But easy to reach by train.
But this is nothing compared to Elvira all the way from Romania to Berlin and even Johanna from Canada!

Regards
Powwow powered Steffi

Voted 100 km... Jul 18, 2006

...mostly because at this point any additional kilometer would mean risking a pre-term labor. lol

I'd be happy to travel further in a couple of months' time, even attend a powwpow abroad, but the latter always implies visas and freelancer translators are kind of frowned upon by embassy staff - or, as one nice lady from the British embassy pointed out: "I know you won't be working in a fast food restaurant, should it ever occur to you not to return to Serbia"...

Wish I could:) Jul 18, 2006

I would attend a powwow with a great pleasure, but it's too far from my place of living - Far East of Russia, if only going to China:-P but I am not sure if translators from French and English into Russian meet in China:) Still it's a great opportunity.

Take me to the moon :-) Jul 18, 2006

Our record so far is about 1000 km, for a powwow in Mendoza (Argentina). It gathered people from all over the country and only the snow levels in the Andes prevented our Chilean friends to join us.

After the powwow we stayed overnight and on the next day we had an amazing tour to the mountains, playing with snow and visiting places of breathtaking beauty.

Agree with Leticia and Andrés, it is worth every single kilometer.

some 300 km Jul 18, 2006

I decided not to go to the Buenos Aires conference. 7000 km is in my opinion too much for solely a conference and my holiday quotum is already filled up. Saw a nice powwow in Canada, where I am now, but unfotunately it was 1000 km form here. Next time perhaps.

1000 kms twice, and counting.... Jul 18, 2006

I have attended to 2 powwows in Buenos Aires (1000 kms away) and one in Córdoba (600 kms). And I would do it again a thousand times. It is really nice to meet colleagues and make new friends. Sometimes this job can get quite lonely, it is good to share experiences with others.
I am attending the powwow that is being held for the ProZ Conference next month, I hope I meet many of you there!!!

Natalia
