I think the KudoZ question page is getting rather cluttered.
Do we really need a permanent explanation of the discussion function on the page?

Wouldn't a simple button be enough?

I'd tend to say "no", but I've been using KudoZ for several years. Maybe newbies or people not using KudoZ very often appreciate to know what "discuss" exactly means...I don't know!

Discussion vs. request for clarification Apr 24, 2009

Hi Jack,

I believe that this explanation is in fact useful because the "Clarification" (formerly known as "Ask the asker") and "Discussion" areas have been merged recently. "Discussion" alone would probably miss the clarification aspect to be taken care of in this area as well.

Best regards,
Steffen

... Jack's suggestion could still be adopted with just a mouse-over (hover box) explanation. I agree with him -- the page is becoming too cluttered.

Well, we can remove the permanente explanation so it can appear just when we focus over the button "View discussion".

Indeed, I think we can implement a more graphical site with icons instead a long name in the button. "View discussion" contains 15 characters, which is a long text string.

Best regards.

Has the search page changed as well recently? Apr 24, 2009

I agree with Jack.

The search page also seems to have changed for the worse recently too: when I search via the KudoZ toolbar, I now come to a page with very large font defining the search terms (which I presumably already know as I've just input them). I then have to scroll down to see the results of any search, which is very frustrating. Is it possible to revert to the previous display?

No, please.

Changes are for better. Just remember how did Proz look like in 2002....

We shall not prolongate these debates ad nauseaum. I propose to vote in a poll and end this "I like it-I don't like it-I like it-I don't like it" saga.

Best regards.

If none of us offered any feedback, there would be NO changes. I personally don't like the new page layout and am entitled to say so.

I personally don't like it either - perhaps it's just a matter of getting used to all the changes of late.

Now it's on the left side and it looks like the forum's "track this topic" button.
The thing is that now, "Track this question " is checked by default as soon as you answer a question, which means that you get notification when someone suggest an answer after you. I personnaly don't need that feature....

Changes under way Apr 24, 2009

Hi all,

As part of the process of simplifying the interfaces, the "track" button has been replaced by a little green box similar to the one used in forums. Questions tracking is a member-only feature.

Hi all,

As part of the process of simplifying the interfaces, the "track" button has been replaced by a little green box similar to the one used in forums. Questions tracking is a member-only feature.

Following a suggestion received via support, we will add a "save" button to this box. It is not needed, but users feel more comfortable having it.

There is also a "Send me notifications about this discussion" selection box in the discussion area (available to all logged-in users).

The logic of these notifications is:

  • When you select the "track question" box, the "track discussion" will also be selected. You can then de-select any of them independently.

  • When you post a reference comment, an answer or a discussion entry, the "track discussion" box is selected. If you de-select it once it will no longer be automatically selected again in this question.

  • When "track question" is selected, you receive a notification each time a reference post or an answer is posted.

  • When "track discussion" is selected, you receive a notification each time a discussion entry is made.

A detailed FAQ will provide a proper explanation of these features.

Another implementation early next week will aim to simplifying the KudoZ interface.

    Regards,
    Enrique ▲ Collapse

Sorry to stray from the main topic, but I really miss the Clarification or Ask the Asker functions. We now don't have any way to ask the asker anything. I found that option very useful. Any chance there will be something similar soon?

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before. I was away for a while, came back, and noticed all the changes recently.

    Hi teju,

You can use the discussion area for that purpose.

    Enrique
