Ok, but in my case I only ask Kudoz when I can't find anything relevant on the net (e.g. I already spent one hour or more searching). Therefore, only documented answers help me.

Of course some askers ask questions whose answers can easily be found on the web. But I usually don't answer those "easy" questions.

I don't think this is true in most of the cases, because now you don't research the source term anymore, but the (alleged) target term, which is a whole different story.

you can always post it and write 'refs. to follow', then take your time expanding your answer. That's got to be preferable to a * -
