I was recently curious about how an answer had been chosen through automatic grading.
Still curious, I looked through the questions that particular Asker had posted and saw that 99% had been automatically graded.
It bugs me that people don't have the courtesy to close a question themselves.
Would it be feasible / a good idea to suspend "question-asking rights" after X unclosed questions by the same Asker?

Makes a lot of sense, Sandra. Worse yet are questions closed without grading: "answer found elsewhere", but no clue as to what the answer was. I would call this kind of behavior "disturbing the peace" of the community.

But it would be good to be able to see in the mouse-over box the number of automatically graded questions of that asker. Then you could make an informed choice of answering the question with (almost) no chance of having your answer selected when the first answer has two (or more) agrees. When you answer a question after several hours, the probability of getting more agrees than the first, even quite wrong, answer is very low - so the information whether this particular asker closes his or her qu... Askers receive repeated reminders to close questions after a certain period has elapsed and if they can't be bothered then why should they be allowed to keep asking questions? Your idea is a good one, Sandra.

KudoZ is the thing people should contribute to as much as they make benefit of it.
There are infamous users, who use the feature "one way", that is ask numerous questions but hardly ever take the trouble to help the colleagues. Well, that's ok.
But those who cannot even close the questions are like those who don't tend to flush the toilet (sorry for this). Booo

People are not allowed to post another question if they have x questions still open (I don't actually remember the exact number).
Anyway, when I still recalled this number, I found that this never has worked: people had a lot more of open questions and still were able to post new ones.
I now have simply stopped to answer questions of askers that often "forget" to close them...

It would be much better to have "not graded questions" deleted after a while automatically. Going through all the "clicks" to close the question with no suitable answers just to say "closed for other reason" would just save my time.

I agree with you. Why bother when the askers don't? And their questions shouldn't be deleted either. Some have very good answers that might be useful. But most of all it shows whether the asker values his/her peers help or not...

But did you ever think of the time the answerers spent for you? Maybe thanking them anyway would not be a bad idea.

I seriously am totally new here and am finding myself very confused. Are you refering to questions that people ask in the forum or are you talking about another part of Proz? Why is it necessary to close them and how do you do it?

Dear saritamackita,
The "questions" everybody is referring to in this thread are terminology help questions, also known as KudoZ. You can read more about KudoZ here http://www.proz.com/?sp=about/kudoz - and you'll find direct links to the features (asking and answering questions, glossaries etc.) under the second tab from the left in the top menu.
Anyway, welcome to the ProZ.com community, I hope you'll enjoy exploring the many features and possibilities!

I think you see only white and blacks. That's an unfortunate statement and generalized people without thinking deeply.
I am one of those people who leave a question open 1 or 2 months.
Why do I do it?
- For getting a cross translation.
For example: In order to translate a term which makes me confused in transaltion from Russian to Turkish, I ask this term in the Russian to English language pair. Because if to ask it in Russian to Turkish - due to the inactivity in this pair (there are 3 or 5 translators who use KudoZ very rarely) - I will get an answer aprox. within at least 2 weeks or even more. And when I ask a question for the purpose of cross translation then I should translate those answers for myself also. Each of the questions gets minimum 4 or more answers. In some questions peer agreements help me to select the exact answer but in some a lot of answers get equal peer agreements. So I leave those questions open for a long time and let the community to direct my decision. I think this is the only fair behaviour in such situations. Because I do not use the translated term directly in my translation so how can I decide which of those answers helped me mostly? They are all equal and fixing the missing part of my understanding. And when I fix them all I create my own version in my native language (I mean literature works).
I find this expression very unfair.

Deleting these questions would be a shame as they probably have valid answers and discussions that can be helpful to others at a later date. If it's a question of time, choosing the answer that helped you and maybe saying thanks only takes a few seconds. If no answer helped you, say what solution you found. Again, this can help others later on.
