Validation therapy
This approach was developed to give validity and dignity to the feelings expressed by disorientated older people who can no longer benefit from reality orientation. The concept of validation may be used with a wide group of people and may also be seen as an issue of good practice. However, validation therapy can assist the client to begin to resolve past conflicts by expressing his feelings to someone who empathises. It is thus possible to reduce problem behaviours which are symptomatic of internal conflicts.
