"carbon-inensive" se refera, in literatura de specialitate, la amprenta de carbon pentru o anumita industrie, pentru un anumit proces, etc. In cazul unui combustibil, spre exemplu, se refera la emisii. Insa in calcularea acestei amprente pentru un proces complex intra emisiile de carbon plus echivalentul in CO2 (denumit CO2e) al proceselor secundare specifice industriei resepctive (neproducatore de emisii, direct) si - foarte important - echivalentul in CO2 al materiilor prime, combustibililor folositi, utilitatilor, etc.
