I know it sounds stupid, but I can't find what that is in that context :
The operator can take two coil loops or two straight edges and insert in the slot holders and set the machine to fit the protractors without any further calculations
It is in a user manual for a coil spreader.

Aux États-Unis, "straight edge" est le terme utilisé pour désigner une règle (réglette) métallique, en plus de "bord droit", bien évidemment. Dans le cas de figure qui nous intéresse, s'agissant d'un réglage faisant intervenir un autre instrument de mesure, il s'agit sans doute de règles/réglettes. Si le texte vient des États-Unis, c'est une quasi-certitude.
