This answer is similar to Matt's, but I think it is a little more faithful to the original metaphor of activating something dormant (touching a nerve that hadn't previously been receiving any sensations).
Of course in English we have "touched a nerve in her," which is more literal and could also work. I think it can be used in a positive sense, but usually it is associated with a "sore spot." What do other people think about this connotation?
