Italian term

difetti di origine

Italian to English Law/Patents Law (general) business
Please see below for context. The text is from an agreement for the supply of goods.
At first I thought a diffetto di origine was an "inherent" or "design" defect, but now I'm not sure whether it's maybe a "materials" defect.
Any help appreciated with the exact legal term in English.

Voi garantite che le apparecchiature ed i materiali forniti saranno nuovi, fabbricati a regola d'arte e con materiali di prima qualità, in completo accordo con le caratteristiche tecniche prescritte nella presente ordinazione e che gli stessi saranno esenti da difetti, anche occulti, di origine e/o fabbricazione.

Discussion

Cedric Randolph Jan 27, 2017:
defective language Italians love, to the bane of we translators, to be redundant even within redundancies. You need not translate this literally. Make sure you cover your bases and get the original message across. The words themselves are less significant than the message.
Marco Solinas Jan 26, 2017:
Agree with Phil The source text is ambiguous. It could have either one of the meanings that Phil listed.
philgoddard Jan 26, 2017:
Two possibilities 1. A defect that was there from the start, ie a manufacturing defect, which is the same as a difetto di fabricazione and therefore redundant.
2. As Simona suggests, origine could mean materials - in this context, we often say defects in materials or production.
