I've also found 'hang in the air' and 'to be suspended above', though I still think linger is a good option.

| I wasn't familiar with glosbe, thanks. I currently have 'flit about' placeholding in the sentence, but I'm not in love with it and don't feel like these cut it here either. I guess I will sleep on it. |
