Blue Fax Lily

Dianella caerulea

This plant has hard strappy leaves up to 20 mm wide and 30-50 cm long.
Subspecies are determined by the structure of the stem, near the root.
Their attractive blue(petals) and yellow flowers(anthers) are quite a common sight in the woodlands.

Dianella caerulea (Phormiaceae): Rizomatosa sempreverde. Foglie strette, lunghe fino a 1 m con margini finemente dentati. Infiorescenze lunghe fino a 60 cm costituite da piccoli fiori stellati blu o (raramente) bianchi, con petali rivolti all’indietro e stami gialli sporgenti, in primavera-estate. Bacche autunnali blu-porpora intenso, ornamentali. Specie insolita e rara. Australia orientale. Semirustica. / Evergreen rhizomatous species. Leaves narrow, up to 1 m long, with finely toothed margins. Inflorescences in Spring-Summer, up to 60 cm long, formed by small, star-shaped, blue or (rarely) white flowers with petals that are bent backwards and with yellow protruding stamens. Berries autumnal, intense purple-blue in colour, ornamental. Unusual and rare species. Eastern Australia. Half-hardy.
