L'Hazon riporta anche, tra altri significati, quello di "assistente/colui che dà assistenza" e il concetto, secondo me, è proprio quello di un partner a cui la donna si accompagna e che concorreva prima della propria morte al sostentamento della stessa. Occorre vedere se la normativa di cui ti occupi fa riferimento solo benefici destinati a coppie sposate con regolare matrimonio o anche a situazioni di convivenza e scegliere il termine più appropriato a seconda del caso.
