Hi,

"The Holy Spirit is the mighty power from the Heavenly Father and the Messiah dwelling within us so that we may have the ability and strength to bring our lives into a state of perfection pleasing to our Heavenly Father."

I am struggling mainly with this last phrase. The source text is a Statement of Doctrine. Any further suggestions?

gerund I am afraid the use of gerund would be an error, in this case, in Italian :) Not for style, it really is a sentence that does not support gerund, the meaning needs the use of "che + present indicative".

Dwelling Thank you so much for your responses Silvia and Mariagrazia. I have a question- I considered using dimorare but went against it as I wanted to use the gerund. Would it sound odd saying 'dimorando in noi'? I've used the gerund in various other places and just think it flows a lot better.

Per "dwelling" concordo con Mariagrazia "che dimora in noi", il verbo "dimorare" è utilizzato spesso, in questi contesti, ma per "pleasing" concordo con Cora e Gaetano, "gradito" (es "Ti offriamo il pane della vita ed il calice della salvezza come sacrificio a te gradito").
"Compiaciuto" non mi sembra corretto, perché il passo del vangelo ha Dio come soggetto "mi sono compiaciuto", altrimenti si dovrebbe utilizzare "in cui il Padre Celeste si compiace" o "per compiacere il Padre Celeste", ma credo che "gradito" risolva meglio.
Anche per "power" concordo con Gaetano e direi "potenza", spesso utilizzato parlando di Spirito Santo.

Thank you very much for your response Mariagrazia! I really like 'potente facolta' and hadn't thought of this phrase at all. I also think 'condurre' works a lot better than what I had. I think for the last phrase, however, I agree more with Silvia in the use of 'gradire' over compiacere. Thanks again for all your input :)

Più che "potere", che ha spesso un significato deteriore, io utilizzerei "potenza" ("grande potenza"). Nella traduzione italiana dei testi sacri, infatti, si parla spesso di "Potenza di Dio".

Thank you Gaetano for your response- it's really helped! I definitely think 'potenza' works a lot better in this instance. I also really like the use of 'gradito'. It's a real shame I can't grade all three answers as most helpful as I will probably be combining elements of each.

Thank you so much for replying Cora- I also considered the use of raggingere which I think is also a really great rendering and perhaps works better than portare too.
