here i sthe sentence where I found this term: the building of patent fences can be carried to the point of creating "patent thickets" that foster
broader monopolies. I understand what it means but cannot find a good trasnlation into Italian. thanks in advance for your help!

thickets are the thick, dense parts of the woods - usually quite wild, a similar expression in Italian is la selva delle disposizioni governative (the thicket of Government regulation) - so I would use "selva" here too
