Dunno, can't you just call it the base? What's it the base OF? It certainly looks like invented Italian to me... someone trying to be poetic! I just googled "basimentale" and NOTHING comes up!

Sorry - it was late and I accidentally wrote "basimentale" rather than "basamentale". But I really can't see why you declined the answer immediately, especially given the agree, rather than waiting to see if other answers come in. Sometimes answers that are given here do have the merit of getting you going in the right direction.

agree Russell Jones : Hi Catherine. "Basamentale has 503 hits. It is commonly translated as base but, especially if we are talking modern multi-storey buildings, the larger lower floor(s) are often referred to as a "podium".
